Beekeeping is a tradition that has been carried on for generations by a Yörük family living in the Mersin Taurus Mountains in the 1700s.
As the Çay family, we have made our living by beekeeping for generations. In the 1950s, our ancestors transported their hives by camel to the Eğriçayır Plateau in the summer and to Kızkalesi Beach in the winter. They stored the honey they produced in their log hives in handmade goatskin pouches called dadarçık and transported them to markets.
